Worldwide Wind Measurement with Turnkey Meteo Towers up to 140 Metres

ge-netWherever the installation of a wind turbine or an entire wind farm is planned, precise information about the area’s wind potential is imperative, not only in order to choose the most suitable turbines but also to calculate the expected energy yield as accurately as possible. Since the amount of energy generated by wind rises with the third square of the wind’s speed, even minor mistakes in estimating this speed have an extreme effect on the actual yield. Exact wind measurement directly on site may be the only answer. This is the speciality of Ge:Net GmbH from Clausthal, Germany.

Even remote areas, difficult terrain and/or extreme weather conditions are no impediments to Ge:Net's ability to install its meteo towers and deliver accurate data about wind potential on site.

History
Ge:Net emerged from the company AEB Energieprojekte in 2001. While its predecessor, which was founded in 1999, offered a very wide range of services in the field of renewable energies, Ge:Net focused on wind measurement. Since 2001 the company has provided meteo towers and measurement systems, as well as assembly and maintenance for the wind energy market. During its early years Ge:Net bought the various components for its meteo towers from other companies, but in 2006 the company developed its own modular tower system.

Company Profile
Ge:Net is a private limited company (GmbH) based in Clausthal-Zellerfeld, Germany. The company focuses on the production, installation and commissioning of meteo towers for the wind farming industry. Ge:Net offers its services worldwide, even in remote areas and under difficult conditions. The company has 18 employees (July 2011) and an annual turnover of about € 1.9 million (2010).

Product Range Description
Ge:Net produces and delivers tubular or aluminium lattice towers up to a height of 85 metres, and, at the customer's request, steel lattice towers up to a height of 140 metres.

The measurement systems are equipped with high quality sensors produced by specialised, well-known companies. The data logger that records the measurements and transmits them via GPRS, GSM or satellite is exclusively programmed by Ge:Net. This enables the company to supply highly customised equipment and to meet even the most extraordinary requirements.

Of especial note, Ge:Net has developed an intelligent system to keep the sensors ice-free for use in locations where weather conditions are expected to cause ice-up – the ‘Smart Deicing’ system. This system reduces the time when sensors are unable to deliver any data because of icing.

Ge:Net provides an experienced team of technicians for the erection of the towers, installation and commissioning of the measurement system, and for subsequent maintenance.

Product and Market Philosophies
The safe assembly and reliable running of wind measurement installations that secure accurate data about wind potential, especially in difficult terrain and under extreme conditions, has become a trademark of Ge:Net GmbH. With ten years of experience, and more than 270 successfully installed meteo towers worldwide to look back on, the company guarantees competence and the highest quality standards.

Future Expectations
Wind energy has become a fast growing industry over the last 10 years. The debate about climate change, the finite nature of fossil fuels, and the growing concern about the risks of nuclear power have propelled interest in the sector of renewable energies, such as wind energy, to a new level.

As wind measurement is always one of the first steps taken when developing a new wind park or when creating a wind map of a country in order to attract wind park developers, Ge:Net is expecting a steady growth through the next years in all markets: highly industrialised countries, the emerging economies and developing countries.{/access}
