The World Wind Energy Association (WWEA) will host an online webinar on 8 April 2026 focused on the role of small wind in hybrid minigrid systems. The webinar will examine the growing use of minigrids in remote and underserved areas, where systems combining solar photovoltaic generation, small wind and battery storage are being deployed to improve energy access, reduce reliance on diesel generation and strengthen grid resilience.
The programme includes a market overview of small wind-based minigrids, followed by presentations on hybrid renewable energy system design, integration of small wind with battery storage and operational considerations. Case studies will cover the Grenville Lake project in the United Kingdom and the Laguna Grande minigrid in Peru, highlighting technical configurations, performance and local conditions. The agenda also addresses regulatory and financial aspects, as well as market prospects for minigrids in West Africa.
Speakers include representatives from WWEA, Windplus India, Bergey Windpower, Marlec, Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, Britwind and Mali Folkecenter.
The session will be moderated by WWEA Secretary General Stefan Gsänger and will take place from 13:00 to 15:00 Central European Summer Time.
