The American Renewable Energy Standards and Certification Association (ARESCA) has announced its plan to adopt a series of international standards for marine and wind energy as American National Standards (ANS). This move aims to align the United States with global best practices in renewable energy technology.

ARESCA invites input from all interested and affected parties who wish to learn more or provide feedback on these proposed standards. The adoption includes standards from the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Technical Committees 114 and 88, covering marine energy and wind energy systems.

ARESCA also plans to adopt the following wind energy standards, which focus on power curve data sharing, blade maintenance, and electromagnetic compatibility:

  • ARESCA 61400-16: Standard file format for sharing power curve information.
  • ARESCA 61400-32 (Amendment 1): Operations and maintenance of wind turbine blades.
  • ARESCA 61400-40: Electromagnetic compatibility requirements and test methods.

The following standards focus on assessing the performance and development of wave, tidal, and water current energy converters:

  • ARESCA 62600-100: Power performance assessment of wave energy converters.
ARESCA 62600-101: Wave energy resource assessment and characterization.
ARESCA 62600-103: Guidelines for early-stage wave energy converter development and testing.
ARESCA 62600-200: Power performance assessment of tidal energy converters.
ARESCA 62600-201: Tidal energy resource assessment and characterization.

These standards will help improve the efficiency, reliability, and safety of marine and wind energy technologies in the United States. Stakeholders interested in providing feedback or obtaining more details can contact ARESCA directly.
