AGL Energy and its project partners have decided to discontinue development of the Gippsland Skies offshore wind project off the coast of Victoria, Australia and have surrendered the project’s feasibility licence. The Gippsland Skies project was planned as a 2.5 GW offshore wind development located around 30 kilometres south of Gippsland, Victoria, Australia.
The consortium behind the project included AGL Energy, Mainstream Renewable Power, Reventus Power and Direct Infrastructure. The development was intended to be delivered in multiple phases, with the first phase previously expected to enter operation from 2032.
The project shareholders confirmed that the decision followed a review of capital allocation priorities and current market conditions. AGL Energy is shifting its focus towards grid scale battery storage and onshore renewable energy projects.
As a result of the decision, the Gippsland Skies project company has applied for consent to surrender its feasibility licence to the Offshore Infrastructure Registrar, bringing the feasibility stage of the offshore wind project to a close.
