RWE has officially opened its new offshore wind control centre in the East Frisian municipality of Jemgum, in the district of Leer, Germany. The new facility will serve as the operational hub for monitoring and controlling RWE’s offshore wind farms across Germany and continental Europe on a 24-hour basis.
The building was constructed by local company Real Immobilien. Around 50 RWE employees will be based at the site. Built over approximately 12 months, the two-storey facility provides around 1,120 square metres of floor space. It includes modern offices, meeting rooms and a dedicated control room, as well as staff amenities such as large break areas with kitchen facilities, a conservatory and a fitness room.
Outside, the site features bicycle parking, around 50 car parking spaces and electric vehicle charging points.
The building was designed to meet high sustainability standards. Recycled materials were used during construction and the facility incorporates energy-efficient design measures. A rooftop solar installation supplies part of the building’s electricity demand, while additional measures have been implemented to reduce water consumption.
