CRRC has completed production of an internally developed 110-metre recyclable wind turbine blade in Sheyang, Jiangsu Province, China. The blade is designed to facilitate material separation and recovery, with a reported recovery rate of more than 95% for key raw materials. The development is intended to support the recycling of large wind turbine blades at the end of their service life.
The blade uses a recyclable material system based on a debondable infusion resin. The material system is designed to meet requirements for strength, stiffness and fatigue life while allowing the resin to be separated from the reinforcing fibres using a reversible chemical debonding process.
Recovered materials, including resin and fibres, can then be reused in wind equipment, automotive manufacturing, infrastructure and other applications.
CRRC said the development is intended to support further work on recycling technologies for large wind turbine blades.
