Vestas has introduced the V182-7.2 MW wind turbine, based on the EnVentus platform. Depending on site conditions, the turbine is designed to increase annual energy production (AEP) by up to 6% and reduce the levelised cost of energy (LCoE) compared with the V172-7.2 MW.
The V182-7.2 MW has the same rated capacity as its predecessor but uses a larger rotor. With a specific rating of 277 W/m², the turbine is designed to increase the capacity factor by up to 2% compared with the V172-7.2 MW. This allows a greater share of electricity generation at lower wind speeds.
Vestas says the V182-7.2 MW is suitable for use globally, with a particular focus on low- to medium-wind sites in Europe, Australia, South Africa, North America and South America.
