The Andilly-les-Marais community wind farm in France has been named the winner of the 2026 Fast and Fair Renewables Award. Projects from Italy, Germany and the Netherlands were also shortlisted by an independent jury. The award, launched this year, recognises renewable energy projects that combine accelerated deployment with community involvement, environmental measures and social considerations.
The Andilly-les-Marais project, developed by Valorem in partnership with the citizen cooperative COOPEC and the municipality, supplies electricity for around 10,600 households. The project includes strong local participation, with nearly 380 residents investing €1.2 million, resulting in one-third citizen ownership and shared decision-making rights.
The scheme provides local economic benefits, including job creation, a 5% return for citizen investors and an annual contribution of €62,000 to a community fund. This fund supports local initiatives, renewable energy education and public infrastructure, alongside environmental compensation and restoration measures.
