Egypt is planning its first wind turbine manufacturing facility alongside a 2,000 MW wind power project in the Gulf of Suez. The initiatives are being developed through a partnership involving turbine manufacturer Sany, the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company and the New and Renewable Energy Authority.
The planned manufacturing facility is expected to have an annual production capacity of up to 2 GW of wind turbines. Construction is projected to be completed within two years after final agreements are signed. The 2,000 MW Gulf of Suez wind farm is scheduled to be connected to the national grid within 23 months.
