Enersense has been awarded a contract to build a new 400/30 kilovolt substation for the Kannisto wind farm in Halsua, Central Ostrobothnia, Finland. The project forms part of OX2’s wider wind power investment programme, which includes three wind farm projects in Southern Ostrobothnia.
The Kannisto wind farm will comprise 20 turbines. Owing to the scale of the project, the grid connection will be made directly to Fingrid’s 400 kilovolt transmission network. This requires a dedicated substation to convert the electricity generated by the turbines to the transmission grid voltage level. A new transmission line will also be constructed between the substation and Fingrid’s station.
Under the contract, Enersense will be responsible for the design, procurement, construction, installation, testing and commissioning of the substation.
Design work is scheduled to begin in January 2026, with commissioning planned for the end of 2027.
