EWE, RWE and Vattenfall are selling their shares in the alpha ventus offshore wind farm to Ocean Breeze Energy. Located around 45 kilometres north of Borkum, the wind farm was commissioned in 2010 with 12 turbines and a total capacity of 60 MW. As a demonstration and testing platform, the project provided experience with offshore wind technologies and operation and maintenance concepts.
Ocean Breeze Energy plans to continue operating alpha ventus beyond its intended 20-year lifespan. The new ownership structure is intended to enable the existing infrastructure to continue generating renewable electricity for as long as possible. Ocean Breeze Energy is wholly owned by funds managed by Macquarie Asset Management. The financial details of the transaction have not been disclosed. Completion is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.
