UKA has placed an order with Nordex for 20 N163/6.X turbines with a combined capacity of 140 MW. Each unit will have a rated capacity of 7 MW. The wind farm will be built on the Mercedes-Benz automobile testing site near Papenburg, Lower Saxony. Max Bögl Wind will manufacture and install the concrete foundations and hybrid tower components, with hub heights of 164 metres.
The development contract was signed in May 2023, after which UKA completed both planning and approval processes. The first turbines are expected to begin trial operation in 2027. Once fully commissioned, the wind farm will cover about 20% of Mercedes-Benz Group’s annual electricity needs in Germany. The supply contract runs for at least 25 years from the start of delivery.
