Vestas has agreed with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) to cooperate on the establishment of a wind turbine manufacturing base in Japan. The agreement sets the foundation for a final nacelle assembly facility by fiscal year 2029, contingent on market conditions, and includes a roadmap towards a full nacelle production site by fiscal year 2039.
The initiative aims to support the growth of Japan’s offshore wind market and contribute to lower future energy costs and the adoption of decarbonised electricity supply technologies.
In parallel, Vestas signed memoranda of understanding with Japanese companies Nippon Express and DENZAI to strengthen the domestic supply chain and support smooth execution of local wind projects. The cooperation with Nippon Express will leverage the company’s global logistics capabilities for project delivery in Japan.
