New data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA), reviewed by the Sun Day Campaign, shows that wind power continued to expand its contribution to the USA electricity mix during the first four months of 2026, while wind, solar and battery storage are expected to account for more than 78.5 GW of new generating capacity by April 2027. Over the same period, total fossil fuel and nuclear generating capacity is projected to decline by more than 5.2 GW.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta and California Energy Commission (CEC) Chair David Hochschild have sent a Notice of Intent to Sue challenging an agreement between the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) and Golden State Wind (GSW). In the Notice of Intent to Sue sent to DOI and GSW, California alleges that the agreement violates the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act (OCSLA), which governs the offshore wind leasing programme. The notice provides a 60-day period for DOI and GSW to address the alleged OCSLA violations before California files suit.

WindEurope has called on EU energy ministers to agree on a binding renewable energy target for 2040 ahead of policy discussions on 26 June. A report from the Energy Transition Institute at Robert Gordon University says the next five years will be critical for ensuring the UK's energy transition becomes a long-term economic opportunity for North East Scotland. The report, Delivering Positive Energy, states that the decline in the region's oil and gas workforce must be matched by growth in offshore renewables employment during this period. It says the region has the potential to develop into a major multi-energy hub serving North Sea countries involved in the energy transition.
