DNV has awarded Basic Design certification to BW Ideol for its 15MW+ floating wind platform. The platform, designed to support wind turbine generators in the 14 to 16MW range and scalable up to 22MW, is intended for a broad range of metocean conditions, from moderate to more challenging environments.
It is compatible with turbines from various original equipment manufacturers and aims to serve multiple projects from a single production line. BW Ideol’s approach focuses on standardisation to reduce costs and increase production efficiency through economies of scale. The newly certified design draws on BW Ideol’s experience from previous floating wind projects, including Floatgen (Lloyd’s Register, 2016), Hibiki (ClassNK, 2016), and Eolmed (Bureau Veritas, 2022), all of which received certification from recognised classification bodies.
