EDF Renewables UK and ESB have secured the rights to develop the Gwynt Glas floating offshore wind farm in the Celtic Sea through The Crown Estate’s Leasing Round 5. The project has the potential to generate up to 1.5GW.
Gwynt Glas was selected through a competitive seabed tender process, following more than three years of engagement with key stakeholders to shape the project’s development. As part of the tender, the developers submitted proposals for the wind farm along with plans to maximise socio-economic and wider social value benefits. Development and consenting activities will now move forward under UK Government guidelines, including detailed stakeholder consultation and determination of the project's final layout and capacity. The consenting phase is expected to take three to five years, with potential full operation in the early 2030s.
