Huisman has been awarded a contract by Siem Industries to supply 400-tonne and 50-tonne knuckle boom cranes for two newbuild offshore support vessels under construction at Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding in Fuzhou, China. The cranes will be manufactured at Huisman’s facility in Zhangzhou, Fujian Province, China.
The contract covers two 400-tonne knuckle boom cranes equipped with below-deck winches and two 50-tonne auxiliary cranes designed for deepwater operations.
The 400-tonne cranes will have a lifting capacity of up to 400 tonnes in a single-fall configuration and active heave compensation at full load. Huisman’s secondary controlled drive system will support this function, while the cranes’ deepwater capability will allow hook travel of up to 3,000 metres. The design also allows large objects to be lifted at full capacity with the knuckle extended.
Other features include reduced power demand from the vessel’s electrical grid, eco-mode operation and integration with electrical power management solutions. A fifth-generation motion controller is intended to improve lifting accuracy, while load peak shaving and lift-off boost modes are designed to extend the range of weather conditions in which operations can take place. The cranes will also feature LiDAR-based active collision avoidance.
