The US Department of the Interior has announced a settlement agreement with affiliates of Invenergy. Under the agreement, Invenergy will terminate four offshore wind leases and receive a partial refund of capital previously paid to the federal government.
The leases are located in the New York Bight, off the Central Coast of California and in the Gulf of Maine. Together, the four leases were acquired for a total of US$765 million.
As part of the settlement, Invenergy said it will redirect investment towards other domestic energy projects, including natural gas-fired power plants in Indiana, Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas and Missouri, as well as geothermal power generation projects in the western USA.
