The transmission assets for the Morecambe Offshore Windfarm have received development consent from the UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero. The decision completes development consent for the entire Morecambe project. The Morecambe Offshore Windfarm is owned by Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP), which acquired the project in 2025 from Cobra Group and Flotation Energy. Copenhagen Offshore Partners (COP), CIP’s offshore wind development partner, is leading development and construction, with Flotation Energy continuing as a development partner.
Development consent for the transmission assets follows consent for Morecambe’s generation assets in the east Irish Sea in December 2025. Consent for the transmission assets was granted at the same time as that for the Morgan Offshore Wind Project, a separate offshore windfarm in the east Irish Sea. Morgan is designed to connect to the National Grid substation at Penwortham alongside Morecambe. The Morgan project is not owned by CIP or developed by COP.
Morecambe will continue to engage with local stakeholders and supply chain partners as the project progresses through the next stages of design and delivery.
