Voodin Blade Technology has received funding from the European Innovation Fund to develop a commercial factory for wooden wind turbine blades in Navarre, Spain. The VB1F project aims to scale up the production of wind turbine blades made from wood, with a focus on recyclable materials, automated manufacturing and a production process without the use of moulds.

The planned facility is expected to produce up to 160 blade sets annually from 2031. The project could avoid more than 2.4 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions during its first decade of operation and create around 450 local jobs.

The project is supported by the European Union’s Innovation Fund, which has awarded €48.18 million in funding. The fund is managed by the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) and supports European initiatives including the Green Deal, the Net-Zero Industry Act and REPowerEU.
