Five wind turbine manufacturers have now surpassed the 100 GW installed milestone, while global wind turbine original equipment manufacturers installed 28,395 new turbines worldwide in 2025, an increase of 23% compared with the previous year. Vestas retained the top position for cumulative installations and became the first turbine manufacturer to exceed the 200 GW milestone in 2025, reaching more than 201 GW installed capacity.
Goldwind moved into second place with 163 GW, followed by Siemens Gamesa with 148 GW and GE Vernova with 125 GW. Envision became the latest manufacturer to exceed 100 GW, reaching 103 GW of cumulative installations by the end of 2025.
The global top five turbine suppliers by installed capacity in 2025 were all Chinese manufacturers for the first time, reflecting rising domestic demand for wind power in China. Goldwind installed 29.7 GW during the year, followed by Envision with 21.8 GW, Windey with 19.8 GW, Mingyang with 18.6 GW and SANY with 15.1 GW.
Outside mainland China, the top five suppliers by installed capacity in 2025 were Vestas with 12.9 GW, Nordex Group with 7.7 GW, GE Vernova with 5.8 GW, Siemens Gamesa with 5.4 GW and Envision with 4.2 GW.
Vestas remained the most internationally active supplier, recording installations in 36 countries during 2025. Nordex Group followed with installations in 24 countries, ahead of Goldwind with 23, Enercon with 22 and Siemens Gamesa with 21.
A total of 178 GW of wind turbine capacity was mechanically installed worldwide in 2025, 40% higher than the previous year. Around 165 GW was connected to the grid, while 13 GW of installations had not yet been commissioned.
In China, manufacturers installed 18,291 turbine units in 2025, representing 67% of the global market. Seven Chinese original equipment manufacturers installed turbines outside China, although most of their activity remained concentrated in the domestic market. Chinese suppliers accounted for 99.96% of the Chinese market in 2025, when more than 130 GW of new onshore and offshore wind capacity was mechanically installed and 120 GW commissioned.
Although nine of the global top 15 turbine suppliers in 2025 were Chinese companies, 93.4% of their global installations remained within China. Of the 9,319 MW installed outside China by Chinese suppliers in 2025, 57% was located in Asia excluding China, followed by the Middle East with 16%, Africa with 12%, South America with 8%, Europe with 5% and the Pacific region with 2%.
Europe recorded 3,504 turbine installations in 2025, representing 12.3% of the global market. European manufacturers, led by Danish, German and Spanish suppliers, accounted for 94.5% of the regional market, an increase of 2.5% compared with the previous year. Nordex Group ranked first in Europe in 2025, supported by activity in Germany and Türkiye. Within the European Union, Vestas, Nordex Group, Siemens Gamesa, Enercon and GE Vernova remained the five largest suppliers. Chinese manufacturers supplied 446 MW of turbines in Europe during 2025, including 278 MW in the EU-27.
The USA recorded 2,289 newly installed turbines in 2025, representing 8% of the global market. GE Vernova and Vestas continued to dominate the US market with a combined share of 93%.
The average turbine size exceeded 6 MW in 2025. The global weighted average onshore turbine size reached 6,160 kW, while average offshore turbine size reached 10,312 kW.
Hybrid drive, or medium-speed, turbines continued to gain market share in 2025, increasing to 37% from 29% a year earlier. Combined with conventional high-speed drive technology, geared-drive systems accounted for 95.6% of the global market, up 4.3% year-on-year. Direct-drive turbines represented 4.4% of the market in 2025.
