The Floating Lidar System developed, manufactured and operated by Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems (IWES) has achieved Stage 3+ under version 3 of the Offshore Wind Accelerator Roadmap (2025). Fraunhofer IWES commissioned Oldbaum Services to carry out an independent assessment based on an extended body of evidence.
The assessment confirmed that the floating lidar system of type Wind Lidar Buoy – ZX Lidar (WLBZ) meets the requirements for Stage 3+ designation under the Carbon Trust Roadmap for the Commercial Acceptance of Floating Lidar Systems, version 3.0 (June 2025).
The Fraunhofer IWES Wind Lidar Buoy provides validated turbulence intensity measurements, supporting offshore wind site assessment by reducing uncertainty and strengthening the basis for site suitability assessments and project decision-making.
The updated version of the roadmap introduces additional requirements, including the assessment of turbulence intensity and the use of error metrics to evaluate floating lidar system performance.
