RWE has installed 36 of the 72 wind turbines planned for the 1.1 GW Thor offshore wind farm off the west coast of Jutland, Denmark. The Siemens Gamesa turbines each have a capacity of up to 15 MW, with hub heights of around 148 metres above sea level and rotor blades measuring 115 metres in length.
Installation is being carried out from the Port of Esbjerg using Fred. Olsen Windcarrier's Brave Tern installation vessel. The remaining turbines are scheduled for installation by the end of 2026, with testing and full commissioning expected by spring 2027.
Thor is jointly owned by RWE (51%) and Norges Bank Investment Management (49%). RWE is responsible for construction and will operate the offshore wind farm throughout its lifetime.
