Enova, Norway’s government agency for the energy transition, has awarded funding to Windeed to carry out a feasibility study for a full-scale floating offshore wind demonstrator in Norway. The study will be conducted with Aibel and AF Gruppen, supported by Norwegian industrial and research partners.
The participants will assess the delivery chain for a future demonstrator, including fabrication, assembly, transport, installation, operations and lifecycle performance. Windeed’s floating foundation system is designed to reduce material use and simplify fabrication and installation, while reducing dependence on specialised harbour facilities and offshore construction vessels.
The study will cover engineering, industrial planning, logistics, lifecycle assessment, risk analysis and long-term operational planning. It is intended to support the development of a future full-scale demonstration project in Norwegian waters.
The programme builds on an independent assessment by BVG Associates, which concluded that Windeed’s technology could achieve a lower levelised cost of energy than conventional floating wind solutions. The Enova-supported study will assess the technology and its potential integration into a commercially deployable project using Norwegian industrial capabilities.
