eologix-ping has launched its :lightning fleet – Satellite version, a satellite-enabled upgrade of its lightning monitoring system for wind turbines. The new solution uses Myriota’s UltraLite satellite connectivity to extend monitoring capabilities to wind farms in remote locations with limited telecommunications infrastructure.
The system detects lightning events directly at the turbine tower using a magnetic field detector installed inside the power and communication module. The sensor captures magnetic field changes induced by lightning current passing through the tower structure and generates an event notification that is transmitted to the cloud.
