Clearway Energy has signed a turbine supply agreement with Vestas for the repowering of the 335 MW Mount Storm Wind project in Grant County, West Virginia, USA. The agreement covers two phases of the project.
As part of the repowering, the site's 132 existing turbines will be removed and recycled, with materials such as aluminium, cabling, fibreglass, and scrap metal processed at regional facilities. The upgraded wind farm will feature 78 new V117-4.3 MW turbines, increasing Mount Storm’s overall electricity generation by 85% while reducing the number of turbines by 40%. The nacelles for the new turbines will be manufactured at Vestas' factory in Brighton, Colorado, USA.
