Mammoet supported Van Oord with the handling and marshalling of monopiles for the Baltic Power offshore wind project. The company used its MTC 1600 terminal crane, with a 1,600 tonne lifting capacity, during operations at the Port of Ronne in Denmark. The crane was deployed alongside a second unit for load-in and load-out activities.
A total of 78 monopiles were handled, with weights of up to 1,680 tonnes and lengths of up to 86.3 metres. The components were transported by barge and unloaded using self-propelled modular transporters fitted with Mammoet’s XXL monopile transport system.
The monopiles were placed on temporary storage areas using hydraulic saddles and jacking systems, and later moved for further processing, including sealing and testing before transport to the quayside.
At the port, the MTC 1600 cranes lifted the monopiles into the water for transfer to Van Oord’s installation vessel Svanen. Transition pieces for the project were also handled at the same port using similar lifting methods.
Baltic Power is being developed by Orlen and Northland Power and is scheduled to begin operations in the second half of 2026.
