Europe on track for record wind installations in 2026

Europe installed 8.8 GW of new wind capacity in the first half of 2026, putting it on track for a record year. WindEurope now expects 24 GW of new wind capacity to be installed by the end of 2026, following high installation activity over the summer. The industry is entering an expected ramp-up phase towards annual installations of 30 GW in the 2030s. Germany led installations in the first six months of the year, with 3.4 GW, while Denmark, Poland, Portugal and France also recorded significant increases. Ukraine installed more than 400 MW despite the ongoing war.
Netherlands introduces distance rule for onshore wind

The Dutch government has announced a national distance requirement for new onshore wind turbines, providing greater clarity on the rules for wind energy development. The requirement is that turbines must generally be located at least twice their tip height from homes and other buildings.

Germany opens consultation on Nederwiek I-B offshore wind farm

The German Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH) has announced a cross-border consultation under Section 59(1) of the German Environmental Impact Assessment Act on the draft site decision and environmental impact assessment for the Nederwiek I-B offshore wind farm in the Dutch exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of the North Sea.
The Dutch Ministry of Climate Policy submitted the draft site decision and environmental impact assessment to Germany by email on 17 July 2026. The submission is intended to inform Germany of activities that may have significant adverse transboundary environmental impacts, in accordance with Article 3 of the Convention on Environmental Impact Assessment in a Transboundary Context (Espoo Convention), and to allow for appropriate and effective consultation.
The submitted document is the Environmental Impact Assessment for the Nederwiek I-B offshore wind farm, dated 8 June 2026. The document is available on the BSH website under Announcements from 28 August to 26 September 2026, inclusive. Further information is available from the Dutch Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). The documents can also be consulted at the BSH libraries in Hamburg and Rostock. Visitors are asked to register in advance to arrange an appointment.
MacGregor gangway certified for floating-to-floating transfers

MacGregor's Horizon gangway has received DNV certification for floating-to-floating (F2F) personnel transfers between two independently moving vessels. The certification, under DNV-ST-0358 and following a sea acceptance test, extends the Horizon gangway's use beyond fixed landing points.
California challenges Golden State Wind lease cancellation

The lawsuit seeks to have the agreement overturned and prevent the administration from implementing it.
Fugro nominates Emiel Jongerius as CFO

The Supervisory Board of Fugro has nominated Emiel Jongerius as a member of the Board of Management and Chief Financial Officer, effective 16 November 2026. Jongerius, 50, has held senior finance and leadership positions at several international companies. From 2001 to 2018, he worked at Royal Philips and Signify, including as CFO and Head of Strategy for Signify’s Lamps business.
Victoria opens tender for first 2 GW of offshore wind

Borkum Riffgrund 3 enters commercial operation
