Over the past eleven months, Nordex has conducted mechanical testing of a rotor blade from its N175/6.X turbine in line with the IEC 61400-23 standard. The tests took place at the accredited rotor blade test facility operated by the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems IWES in Bremerhaven.
The blade, one of the first produced at the Nordex Research and Development Centre in Rostock, underwent a series of static load and fatigue tests designed to simulate its expected service life. Key parameters such as deflections, material strains and natural frequencies remained within the defined tolerances.
Additionally, a 15-metre rotor blade tip featuring an integrated anti-icing system was subjected to lightning protection tests. These were carried out in accordance with IEC 61400-24 at Polytech’s accredited lightning testing facility in Denmark.
