Seatrium has announced that Maersk Offshore Wind has terminated a contract for the construction of a wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV) intended for the Empire Wind 1 project off the coast of New York.
Seatrium confirmed that it received the notice of termination on 9 October 2025 and stated that it is reviewing the validity of the termination and the accompanying allegations. The company said it would explore “viable solutions, including with the end-customer, Empire Offshore Wind,” while considering its legal and commercial options, including potential legal action for wrongful termination.
Maersk Offshore Wind, owned by A.P. Møller Holding, cited “delays and related construction issues” as the reason for ending the agreement. It has not disclosed whether payments have been made for work completed.
The contact, worth US$475, was awarded in 2022 to Seatrium Energy International, formerly Sembcorp Marine Rigs & Floaters and the vessel is 98.9% complete. The vessel was designed to install turbines for Equinor’s Empire Wind 1 project in U.S. waters.
