Jan De Nul has ordered two new vessels designed to bury submarine cables in the seabed, named the Fleeming Jenkin and William Thomson. One of the vessels will be a trenching support vessel equipped with a subsea robot capable of burying cables up to five metres deep.

Vestas has agreed with Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) to cooperate on the establishment of a wind turbine manufacturing base in Japan. The agreement sets the foundation for a final nacelle assembly facility by fiscal year 2029, contingent on market conditions, and includes a roadmap towards a full nacelle production site by fiscal year 2039.

VTT has opened the FutureGrid research infrastructure in Otaniemi, Espoo, providing a testing environment for the development of next-generation power grid technologies. The facility is intended for Finnish and international organisations to develop and test solutions before their deployment in operational electricity networks. The expansion of renewable energy generation and the increasing electrification of society are placing new demands on electricity grids. At the same time, resilience and overall system security are becoming more important as energy systems evolve.

TenneT continued to expand electricity infrastructure in the Netherlands and Germany during 2025, with a focus on strengthening grid capacity and supporting the integration of offshore wind energy. Grid availability remained high despite increased renewable energy generation, with onshore grid availability reaching 99.99977%. TenneT also introduced a new funding structure in 2025 under which TenneT Netherlands and TenneT Germany operate as independent transmission system operators within the group.
